Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is sentenced to another eighteen months of house arrest

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced on the 11 of August to another eighteen months of house arrest. Suu Kyi was give this sentence due to the "violation" of her house arrest, when she kept an uninvited America in her house for two days. The America was also sentenced to a term of 7 years.

For people that do not know who Aung San Suu Kyi is here is some information. Suu Kyi is the daughter of Aung San. Aung San was a Burmese revolutionary and nationalist who was a key figure in Burma's Independents and founder of the modern Burmese army.

Aung San Suu Kyi, like her father, is a key person in the politics of the nation. She is the leader of the National League for Democracy. The NLD is the opposition party to the military junta that rules the nation of Burma. Suu Kyi and her party won the 1990 elections, the first free election in 30 years, but the leaders of the time would not step down and put Suu Kyi on house arrest and most of the NLD leadership in prison.

Suu Kyi was going to be out of house arrest in May and then she could have been in the upcoming 2010 elections. It is believed by many (and me) that the Government is using this in order to stay in power.
